Service to Commemorate Battle of Trafalgar

The Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar

Gravesend Royal Naval Association invited the branch to attend the Service to Commemorate the 211th Anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar which took place in 1805.  This naval engagement was a victory for the Royal Navy against the combined fleets of the Spanish and French. Lord Nelson, one of Britain’s  greatest seafarers was hit in the shoulder by a musket ball and died as a result of his wounds at the battle.

 Jamie, Stuart, Ken, Ray & Angela attended the service which was held at Milton Church Gravesend on Sunday 23rd October.  Ray paraded the branch standard, alongside those of Naval and ex service organisations.
The Reverend Graham Herbert officiated the service.  The Worshipful the Mayor of Gravesham, Councillor Greta Goatley, together with veterans and cadets gathered after the service for refreshments in the church hall.

During her speech the mayor spoke about how important it was to remember these anniversaries and congratulated those attending on ensuring the youth of the town were being brought up in the tradition of the services by their elders and veterans.
